At Marriott International, we provide a wide range of training opportunities, including professional development training and leadership and management skills. The specific training program we will focus on today is the leadership development program.
The training assessment used to evaluate the effectiveness of the leadership development program will be based on Kirkpatrick’s four-level model. We will also address professional ethical standards and diversity considerations.
The four levels in the Kirkpatrick model are:
Definition: This level assesses how participants perceive the training in terms of its favorability, engagement, and relevance to their jobs. The key question to consider is: What was their reaction to the leadership development program?
Definition: This level evaluates how participants acquire the intended knowledge, skills, attitudes, confidence, and commitment as a result of their participation in the training. We need to determine how we can measure the learning outcomes from the leadership development program.
Definition: This level examines how participants apply what they learned during training when they return to their jobs. Can we observe them utilizing the skills acquired in the leadership development program in their work?
Definition: This level focuses on the targeted outcomes that occur as a result of the training and the accompanying support and accountability measures. Overall, how will this leadership development program affect the organization as a whole?Current Trends/Practices Promoting Continuous Improvement
First, let’s define continuous improvement. It refers to the ongoing effort to enhance processes. In a business context, continuous improvement involves making evident and incremental innovations while utilizing minimal resources.
At Marriott, we aim to empower our employees to the fullest extent. This is why we offer the leadership development program—to enable our employees to learn all facets of the hospitality industry and to support their growth and development.
