The selected study examines the differences in care provided to children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in rural versus non-rural areas. It specifically investigates the utilization of services for families of children with ASD residing in these different environments. The research focused on a cohort of children with ASD living in rural regions of a southern state. Since the primary criterion for participant selection was children diagnosed with ASD, this demographic was crucial for the study. The researchers employed random sampling, allowing each participant to complete an online survey regarding their access to and the quality of various services available. A total of 415 caregivers from a southeastern state, each with a child diagnosed with ASD, were selected for the study (Mello et al., 2016). The presence of caregivers with children diagnosed with ASD was a key characteristic of the sample. These criteria play a significant role in understanding the differences in services available for children with ASD in rural and non-rural areas.
